When the snow clears it’s time to put the skis away and dust off the mountain bike. If you enjoy nature, the mountains and the slopes can be used in summer or winter. Here are some of the most exciting and scenic places to go mountain biking:
Saalbach, Austria: All the locals agree that Saalbach Hinterglemm is the absolute Mecca for mountain bikers. A perfect area to go all-terrain. You’re looking at cable car networks, valleys, biking parks – one ticket gives you access to it all. The best thing is that it’s not crowded with tourists, so you can enjoy the peacefulness of nature.
Chamonix, France: Chamonix is a very cool place with lots of old charm and character. At the foot of Mount Blanc, it is a wonderful village that has been built around skiing and mountaineering. The mapping of the trails in the valleys is outstanding. Lots of challenging trails for experienced mountain bikers.
Les Deux Alpes, France: Mountain biking here is so much more than a bike ride it is a lifestyle. Unique riding patterns that you can enjoy all day long. 125 kilometers of marked trails. 15 different riding routes. It is outstanding.
Trois Vallées, France: Lot’s of France here, I know. But France is a passionate nation when it comes to biking in general, so it accommodates the mountain biker superbly well. The three valleys of France include Meribel, Courchevel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens. You’ve probably heard of these places if you’re a skier. There are endless mountain biking routes in and around these areas. Challenging, to say the least, but a lot of good trails.
Ecuador: This is one of the places in South America that is known for its excellent mountain biking. In our book, it is the best. If you look at a terrain map of Ecuador, you quickly see that this is serious stuff. Only the best of the best go here because of the level of difficulty.
United States: Last, but not least, the US has many, many great spots for mountain biking. They include Colorado, Utah (red rock country), Arizona, Oregon, South Dakota, Montana, New Mexico, and California.
