Hygge at Home How to Create a Cozy Space

We are living in a time when life is busier and more hectic. With the world at our fingertips, it is hard to detach and give ourselves the space and time to disconnect. As a society, we are working harder and longer. This is why it’s more important than ever to find that balance of well-being and allow ourselves to relax and enjoy the small things in life. Therefore, we should all embrace the Danish concept of hygge, which many believe is the reason Danes are continuously polled as the happiest people in the world.

What is Hygge

Hygge is defined as a quality of coziness that causes a feeling of contentment. A defining characteristic of Danish culture, hygiene is not something learned. Rather, it’s being present in a moment and appreciating the warmth of feeling that moment brings. Whether it’s your ritual of making coffee every morning or cozying up with a good book, these are just two of many examples of hygiene at home. It is an art form of creating awareness at any given moment.

I have always been a believer in taking the time to notice the small things. It’s when I take the time to appreciate the little things, that I feel contentment in my surroundings and in life. Because of this, it is important to me to create spaces that cultivate coziness, well-being, and contentment with the everyday. In order to do this, I like to incorporate hygiene at home through a neutral color palette, nature-inspired detail and greenery, and layering cozy bedding using materials like linen and cotton.
