Think Before You Start Search Engine Optimization

Optimizing your website for search engines can be a great idea when you first get your site up and running. It can help you get visitors to your site and it can even help you bring in some business. However, thinking about it a few years ago or even a few months ago can make a big difference to how well your site does once you start getting hits.

I have been blogging for a little while now and I have found a lot of people come to my site just out of curiosity. They will read a post and then decide to learn what it is about. Which is great, because that is exactly what you want them to do.

You can watch your website grow in your rankings

That’s the beauty of SEO. Once you get to the top of a search result, it’s very hard to lose that spot. Every day, more and more sites are competing to take your spot. Because of this, you can grow your reach, and in turn, you will start to see more and more traffic coming to your site.

Think of all the products you see on the Internet. You probably know of numerous sites that are competing for the same keywords. Also, you know there are thousands of other sites out there that are wanting to take your spot.

With SEO, you have a way to compete with all of those other sites for your spot. This is why more and more people are going to want to optimize their sites for search engines so they can get the traffic and the resulting profit that they are looking for.

SEO is not hard, but it has become a specialty subject. What it comes down to is knowing your niche and what it takes to promote your particular site. A lot of people feel that SEO is not that hard at all. It is confusion for some. But I think that you need to know the basics and I’ll go over a few things today.

On-page optimization

This article is going to give you some tips on what you can do on your website to optimize it for search engines. This is not an exhaustive list, but it’s important stuff that will make a difference on your site.

Useless rewrites, this has been discussed a bit already. However, I was amazed at the effectiveness of this one. I did a re-write of a page for a client, and the change in ranking of aussie online casino was remarkable. The client had been paying $50 a month for years and finally received 10% more traffic than before. What surprised me was that the site ranked in the top 10 for a search term with such low traffic. I knew that the home page was directly competing with them, but the inner pages were their secondary concern. So what had surprised me more was that the site had been outranked by Yahoo’s main page.

Useless benchmarks Nobody knows what the ranks are for all of the major search engines, and even if they did, they’re difficult to find. But there is one thing that you can do to help the site rank well. Toolbar Page Rank is a great way to get an idea of the search engine ranks. It’s complicated (but probably doesn’t need to be), but it essentially gives you a readout of the page ranking for each site you visit. Page ranking is going to be a huge factor in this contest.

Add new pages

I’ve already mentioned this, but it’s important. Make sure that you regularly add new content to your site. The robot tag is important, but its effectiveness is limited. Once you’ve got your site optimized you don’t need to do much more. However, you should make sure that you refresh the page often. If you start adding random content the search engines will come back and recognize that it isn’t your main site. Even if you use generated content, make sure that it reads well. If your debitcardactivation.com site is a business, make sure that you constantly update your materials to keep them fresh.

Avoid certain practices

We’re going, to be honest with you. You can do whatever you want to your site, but you shouldn’t break the rules. Spamming is a major no-no. If you have a site with a message board or an article database, you’re going to want to avoid linking to other sites. If your site is designed to give information to others about your products or services, you’ll need to steer clear of redirects. In general, if you follow these rules, you should be good at both business and search engine rankings. If you break them, your page rank will suffer at some point, eventually, if not now.
